When treating patients she stresses the importance of prevention to both treat medical conditions and to prevent complications.

Dr. Gunasekara went to medical school at the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka. She continued on to complete her internal medicine residency at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Gunasekara is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is an active member of the America College of Physicians and of the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
